0-60 Time?
- Quote
Tue Jul 08, 2014 5:43 am
It seems that every article that talks about the LEAF poo-poos it's relatively slow acceleration. They quote 0-60 times of 10+ seconds.
I thought that seemed too high, and not consistent with my experience so I tried a little unofficial experiment.
With my son manning the stopwatch I was able to get times close to an admirable 8 seconds from a stop. It makes me wonder if for the officially posted times they are using ECO mode or something.
What are your experiences?

I have also clocked in 0-60 times in the 8 and 9 second range. However, I think in order to be fair it must be on completely level ground. With public roads, you are almost always guaranteed to be on an incline of some kind. So I always figured I must have been going slightly downhill or something.

I expect that was some errors in your measurement. 10 seconds is just about dead on. There is no difference in acceleration between D and Eco, by the way, if you press the accelerator all the way down...

+1. This has been validated over and over using accurate measurements. The perception of speed in an EV can be deceptive.

it's especially slow just off the line. you only get a couple bubbles until your speed goes up a bit. But once you get up to 10 or so it really kicks in! I bet the times 10 to 70 would be way less than 10 seconds!

I doubt it... 60 to 70 takes a while...

I've never clocked it, but I do 0-60 in about 30 seconds. Why? I don't have it floored.
I bought the leaf to maximize my energy efficiency, so I'm not in a hurry to get to 80MPH to go cruising down the freeway. Often times, Driving 55-60 on the freeway, I catch up to the other drivers that were in such a hurry to fly around me at 80MPH+. Traffic is the great equalizer.

Feels that way to me too. If the controller would feed full power to the motor right from a dead stop things would get underway briskly, but for smoothess/range/longevity I understand why it doesn't.

Not that you should, but you can disable the traction control. This lets you max out at 80kW at a stop. I've demonstrated a burnout by doing that.
A few colleagues found it hard to believe a 1.5ton car with 100hp could do a burnout.
